.Dams Implementation Unit implements water harvest projects to meet the vital needs for water in rural areas. These projects are part of Sudan’s Water Strategy, Darfur Peace Goals and Millennium Goals.
Resettlement towns in Upper Atbara and Setait include 11 towns, of which 8 towns in Al Fashaga Locality in Al Gadarif State and 3 towns in Kassala. The resettlement towns consist of 30000 houses, includes 50 basic education schools and 22 secondary schools, health centers, mosques, tarmac roads, water and electricity services.
Upper Atbara and Setait Project is located on the two rivers in East Sudan and aims to generate power, supply Gadarif State with water and reducing mudding in Gashm Al Garaba Dam Lake. The project also aims to improve social and economic life in the two states.
Upper Atbara and Setait Project Power Generation Station is located on Upper Atbara and consists of four turbines with a total capacity of 320 megawatts.
Upper Atbara and Setait water network consists on AlMunarai and Sufao water stations that pump water from Upper Atbara to provide water for towns 1, 3 and 4 and Al Magarif and Hasahaba water stations that pump from Setait River to provide water to towns 2, 6, 7 and three wells that pump water to town 9.
