Nile Day celebrations is NBI's biggest public event held annually on 22nd February. The event commemorates the date when Nile Basin Initiative (NBI)was established in 1999, by Ministers in charge of Water Affairs in the Nile Basin States.
To observe this significant date this year 2015, The Republic of Sudan will host the 9th Regional Nile Day celebrations. At the same time, national level celebrations will be held in each of the NBI Member States.
The theme for the 2015 celebrations is: Water and Improved Livelihoods - Opportunities in Nile Cooperation:
The event is open to Ministers in charge of Water Affairs in the Nile Basin Sates, officials from ministries in charge of Water Affairs and other ministries whose activities touch on the management and development of the shared Nile Basin water resources, Members of Parliament, Development Partners, Researchers, Academia, Civil society, Youth, Media, school children as well as the general public.
