Sudan has tabled a suggestion to Ethiopia and Egypt that aims to make the coming ministerial meeting on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam successful.
Sudan suggested convening a preparatory meeting for the tripartite technical committee headed by the ministers of water resources prior the grand ministerial meeting. The meeting would help reaching agreement on completing the studies and provide a non-traditional solution for the differences on the GERD.
The ministers of water resources in Ethiopia, Egypt and Sudan have expressed willingness to complete the studies recommended by the international experts and address concerns without jeopardizing the interests of all countries.
The initial report of the French consultant has defined the steps to finalize studying the social, economic and ecological impacts of the GERD on Sudan and Egypt and options for filling the dam’s lake.
