In 1952 Sudan decided to study the construction of a dam near Rosairs town in Blue Nile. Sir Alexander and partner & coyne Et Bellier companies were selected in 1955 to design the project. The project study recommended that the dam to be constructed in two stages to store 7.4 billion cubic meters of water. The first stage is 480 meters high above sea level and the second stage is 490 meters above sea level. Egypt and Sudan agreed on the construction of Rosaris Dam and the work started in 1961 and the dam was finalized in 1966.
